On June 14th, my cat passed away suddenly after 13 amazing years together. He was a massive part of my life, and because he was so healthy right up until the end, the sudden goodbye was definitely a lot to process at first.
Now that a couple of weeks have passed, the daily routine feels a bit different, but I'm mostly just focusing on the fond memories, like him checking on my room, coming through the window, walking all over my feet to be groomed, and begging for attention every single night.
I made this art piece to help me process my grief. The day before he passed, he came into my room and just sat watching me work without even asking for treats, which was incredibly rare for him. Looking back, I like to think that was his quiet way of saying goodbye.
I'm so thankful for his 13 years of unconditional companionship. He was right there with me through the grind of college, when I first started taking art commissions, and whenever I just needed some comfort. He really was the one who cared the most.
Losing a best friend like him isn't easy, but I'm moving forward carrying nothing but gratitude. I want to keep living well and doing what I love so that if he’s watching from above, he’s happy. Thanks for being by my side through every single high and low.
