Excellent example of how cgrascal's amazing scanlating speed overshadows occasionally goofy translations and lack of proofreading.

Very little offense intended, mainly just wanted to mirror the first comment. Cgrascal's translations are good for basic porn, it's only when there's complicated plot stuff that they fall short.

edit reply to Hitsuyou-H: Since I can't read Japanese myself, it's easy for me to miss the little translation problems. The most glaring things crop up when he decides to work on complicated non-H Touhou doujinshi. If you've ever been to the Touhou doujinshi image board, they treat his scanlations with a large degree of dread, because, as you know, once something is scanlated, however badly, the chances of a decent scanlation happening drop drastically. I too, think that as long as CGRascal's been around, he should have improved a lot more than he has, and think it's odd that he accepts commissions at his level of quality.

Also, an apology to Anonymous Scanner. I really do appreciate you, but I still think Puszies sounds silly. Then again, that may be the point of title both in Japanese (as Omanzeta) and English.

Sorry, but I think you're missing something here. Simple plot does not mean there's nothing to ruin. See page 6 (page 7 of the gallery):

CGrascal translated this as "Rise-chan, you can help me with something." This was a mistake. A better translation would be "And I'll have Rise-chan helping me, after all." The difference is a bit subtle, but it plays a very important role in the progression of the scene. That line is the moment the reader is supposed to know that something is wrong; that "what" moment when the reader, like Rise, hears a statement that seems to flow with the tone of what Yukiko has been saying but makes no sense once you mentally jerk your head back for a second look; the turning point where you can practically hear the background music stop and see Rise's pupils contract as the nausea sets in.

What effect does the mistranslation have on the experience? I find that the transition to porn is more abrupt than it should be - talking about careers, and then suddenly, "You can help me with something - oh, knockout drugs!" - but that may simply be a result of actually knowing that something is wrong. After all, the line isn't too far off at first glance, so it at least fits with the lines afterward. However, the translator is supposed to be the one who can see past "just making sense" and go into the little things. Moments like these are the soul of the story, and it is important not to miss these, even if many will never know. To do this, you generally need the experience to be able to get things right and the effort to try to get things right. CGrascal has been around for at least four years now with very high throughput, so I doubt experience is the problem. He just thinks far too little about what he does to produce quality work. (Note that missed semantic details are not the only consequence of this - other visible ones are typos and awkward lines, which I'm sure you're familiar with.)

So, should stuff like this bother you? Well, if you're just looking for a quick fap and have nothing in your head other than "it's just porn", I can see why it wouldn't. But know that - at least as I see it, and I'd certainly hope that other translators would agree - simplicity of plot does not allow anything to overshadow shoddy translation, and things like this are base treachery to the very cause of translation.
