I was wrong. I was wrong when I stated that the era of smell-based fetish was getting stagnant and overplayed. Ikematsu has clearly overturned everything I knew about the genre. What Ikematsu has done is add depth to the characters.

By switching roles and putting the girl as the one who smells, Ikematsu delves into previously unexplored sectors and gives us a character who smells AND is aware of it, as opposed to the meatheads who smell and are blissfully unaware of it that have been clogging up the metaphorical nose of originality.

Through Hazuki's fear of being rejected for how she smells, Ikematsu allows readers to emphasize with her plight. Nobody is perfect, and we sometimes fear that our flaws may come into light in front our loved ones, and that this flaw may somehow turn them away from us. The true fetish in this story is not smell in of itself; rather, it is the Takeharu's acceptance of Hazuki's smell that is the true crux of this story, as it symbolizes the ability of love to overcome personal insecurities.

I don't know about you guys, but I got to use the word crux in a sentence so I'm pretty happy.
