This is an artistic masterpiece. You are greeted with weird multi-coloured hedgehog sex but soon the dialogue takes a strange turn. The green hedgehog appears to be brazen and confident in his sexual endeavour but the words coming out of his mouth with a smile belie an absence of self-confidence and a broken spirit as he has been "beaten by blue boy". He repeatedly states he is unworthy of the sexual gratification he is receiving as he gleefully takes it. You notice however, that the red fox repeats platitudes to him that are almost syntactically identical to his sayings, but they counter his negativity. What Palcomix has done here is a work of post-modern genius. Aware that the dialogue in most works of pornography is throw-away and holds no significance to what is actually happening except to determine pleasure or pain from the act (some are aroused by the former, some by the other; this distinction is important to most,) so instead of having his protagonists speak, he replaces their words with an internal dialogue from the green hedgehog; he voices his own self-doubt while she is the avatar of his burgeoning self-belief; he is having sexual intercourse with her consentually by her initiation, a fact that clearly gives him a lot of confidence and helps him battle these inner demons. I am deeply interested to see the conclusion of these piece; will we see the characters truly speak for themselves? Will the green hedgehog finally overcome his anxiety and mirror what the red fox says as a sign of completeness, of solidarity with himself? Or will he collapse under the weight of his abysmal self-worth, roll over and go to sleep, laying despondent as the red fox silently mouths words of encouragement from deep within himself that will never reach their target. Thank you Maximum Joe, for providing me with this touching exploration of self-doubt from Palcomix.
