... That's... kind of the point in it being a lie, isn't it? That somebody would believe it to be the truth? How do we go by what the brother says when he apparently never heard about it being a lie? He says that on page 11, but twice she tells him after that that the first one was his too.

I think the text is just misleading and open to alot of interpretation. Its either the mother left after she birthed the brother or she left because the sister birthed the brother. The current baby might be from the father and saying she got knocked up from some random man is less "taboo" of course she then contradicts that by saying the brother is the "only one" but its obvious that the brother has no idea about potentially having sex but maybe she just stole some sperm from a tissue or something and knocked herself up by accident/purpose. IMO id say that the mother left after giving birth to the brother and she was sad because she couldn't breastfeed him, she then either accidentally/purposefully knocked herself up with her brothers sperm or the father knocked her up. Im leaning more towards the brother since she says that, again, he's "the only one". Again though i dont think its worded quite right or just misleadingly as there's definitely not enough info to go on.

Man, 6 years and we still don't know, my guess the problem is in the translation. She doesn't look like she is lactating as a kid there so I discard she being the mother though. Also, is that they never mention their dad but she's clearly too young for having taken custody of her brother as a guardian, and being the "only one" could be only one she truly loved.
