Thank you for the upload, it seems that little elbow grease here and there in Photoshop should improve this scan.
I am however wondering what settings were used in scanning as there's a lot of artifacts and the pictures are in RGB instead of grayscale.

Kalevala: 600dpi at full colour on a Canoscan 210 LIDE. Everything else is off, and I used the same settings for the yorokobi 24 scans.

Rescanning though, because that scan bleed does actually annoy me.
