@Fang5: I'm pretty sure he didn't realize he loved her. She was always next to him and only after he lost her, he realized his feelings, but it was too late already, so he distanced himself from her so he didn't suffer.

@rozzak: Indeed, they weren't together, but the whole book is full of retrospections, you can see for example her bursting in tears at the beginning, because she still waited for MC to call her and stop her, then all the story is explained, to come back around the time the other guy explains that he loves the heroine and such. Then there's more of time or place-leaps. It was hard to catch changes in narration >_>

I don't understand this Kii-chan guy's feeling at all. Does he see the girl as just siblings? Or does he actually have a feeling for her?

The way the artist presented him, he actually only sees the girl as a sibling. When he saw her playing flute with the other guy, he's just like "They're attracted to each other. Huh, okay". Thus he tried to distance himself so the girl can develop her feelings more to the other guy. If that is so, what I don't understand is why he didn't just straight up said so to the girl, instead of just stayed silent. It's like he's trying to give the girl's unrequited love a hope just to torment her.

All in all, from all of Mashiraga Aki's NTR story, this is on the weaker side.

Well, if this qualifies as NTR, it's one of the better ones. Doesn't really rely on bullshit just to move things along, the characters feel a bit more believable, there isn't a stock NTR protagonist, villain, or dumb girl. Hell, even the fact that there's no 180 flip featuring rape -> love is really impressive.

Not too shabby, I must say.

This isn't netorare. She did not cheat on him. They weren't even in a relationship. Who the heck randomly tagged NTR just because they are salty?

@TheDiabolical

I think it is important to classify this as non-NTR because I find it to be a good end. Kii is obviously a dumbass who just didn't realize what he had lost until he lost it. Personally, I am glad that she moved on, because Kii is honestly an asshole for dragging things out. She moved on and found happiness with the other guy. If there was NTR, I would be feeling a bit of guilt for feeling so happy, but there isn't NTR, so it's not sad.

@Rozzak

I'll take your word for it. Doesn't stop me from feeling absolutely happy about her moving on. Kii needs to understand that life doesn't sit still. If he wants something, he can't just wait for it to fall into his hands. When I mean happy, I mean personal happiness not the character's. I feel joy that it turned out like that. Because I think she gained true normal happiness, which in turn made me happy. Occasionally NTR does make me happy, but that is when the guy is totally pathetic like this guy. So whether this is NTR or not, it makes me happy. Happy End.

The "N" in the title stands for netorare. I'm gonna trust the nip author's judgement on his own work this time. If it makes you feel better, she didn't completely get over the MC-kun until her boyfriend fucked her. And even if she didn't technically "cheat", it appears both childhood friends felt romantically towards each other, they were bf/gf in everything but name.

>Implying netorare can't make you feel happy for the girl
Netorare is about the boys' suffering. In most cases I'd wager the girls will be relatively happier with their new fat, bald, giant-cocked boyfriends.

This is quite a melancholy work, but are people talking about how they felt about it? Or why the guy stood by and did nothing until he lost the girl's heart completely?
No. It's all "This isn't NTR!" and "Why is the NTR tag on this?!", bitching on and on. Is having something being considered NTR by someone anywhere ever really such a curse to you that it's all you guys care about? Seriously.

Did she forget he? The girl might regret thinking that she still loves the friend and go back. In the manhwa H-mater, saeyoung still loves her ex-boyfriend and uses another man to forget him, but can't. She still love Taebong.
She may be trying to forget his friend believing that she have no chance with him.
.
@ Fang5
He misses his presence and her friendship, I believe that when she began dating another boy she left aside.
I receive a once the confession of my childhood friend who wanted to date me, but I had no attraction for her and I was dating another girl. She broke off her friendship with me, I missed her company, but I didn't want to be her boyfriend.

I think it's netorare. The childhood friend did distance himself from her because of jealousy, seeing that she was "already attracted" to the other guy.

It's a very mild NTR though, because she's not being "stolen" as much as choosing the guy who has proven he cares about her more.

I mean, come on, even Shu from netoraserare had the testicular fortitude to tell the girl how he felt. She practically confessed her feelings for him and he still didn't respond so in that way, I don't feel pity for the childhood friend at all.

@badmana I think it was less jealousy and more of him being the epitome of the "nice guy" stereotype. You know, that whole "I just want her to be happy, even if it's not with me..." betaboy mentality. I see the exact same sort of plot circumstances in a lot of shoujo manga. It's something like:

>Mutual love between childhood friends
>Male doesn't want to lose his relationship to youthful indiscretion (because of some herbivorous "cherishing you"/"I don't want to lose you as a friend" bullshit)
>Female doesn't realize the reasons for him withholding his affections
>Female inevitably gets courted by a good guy
>Male mistakes one-sided feelings (other guy) + friendship (female) as an indicator of the change in her affections towards the opposing side of the love triangle
>Female gets asked out by other guy
>Male queues up that "I just want her to be happy" mentality and tries to be supporting towards (what he thinks is) their mutual love
>Female is like "fuck you then", and starts dating other guy (because he's a good friend/she wants to get over her past love/last-ditch effort to incite some jealousy)
>6 months later she's about to fuck her boyfriend and is like "I obviously love you so why don't you stop me like one of those shoujo bishies!!?!"
>Male is like "dafuq...I thought she loved that other bloke...wtf bitches are tricky"
>Because of his shitty adolescent brain he doesn't have the courage to break the already established relationship between her and her boyfriend (especially when they're on a nice lil trip together)

>Male uses some sophistry about "just hearing her flute is good enough for me" to drown out the fact that he totally can tell that her and that other guy were fucking each other's brains out all summer.

All-in-all I gotta hand it to the girl's boyfriend. Dude loved this girl enough to deal with osananajimi affection-levels for the MC the entire time that they were dating. He played the long game and came out on top. Very commendable. Those months that they were dating must've been pure torture.

I think we see countless retellings of this plot in shoujo manga, because it's a very "clean" way of having a love-triangle in which the childhood friend loses without demonizing anyone involved. Definitely a hackneyed formula, but certain shades of plausibility still make for an effective emotional gut-punch. Many can probably empathize. Sometimes, the sincere reasons you pursue something ends up for naught; sometimes, people don't realize what they have until it's gone and quietly cope.

I do appreciate this for the balance of plot and setup vs. hentai sex.

As for the NTR, I'm with the "not" NTR side. Regardless of the childhood friend's herbivore status, regretting a past opportunity is not theft.

I, for one, support the childhood friend in his actions.

He isn't interested in her that way, he refused her confession, he showed no regret and no jealousy towards their relationship, and he happily kept his distance.
If anything, she's the one who shows regret, she wanted more of their relationship, she was shot down, and in the ending, she still shows lingering desires towards him, who cares not.

Since this is one of those realistic stories, here are my thoughts on it. I didn’t make me rage but I did feel a bit sad. Not due to the fact that the CF didn’t get the girl but because he lost a friend. From my experience friendships with the opposite genders don’t last due to hormones and the girl (or guy) wanting a relationship. Even if they are still on speaking terms it won’t be the same. That’s what I felt bad about the most in this story.

Thinking about the aftermath of what could happen (I’m not saying this will happen, Just a guess) The relationship between the two won’t last long because this girl in particular couldn’t have her CF because of him lacking confidence while not making a move. Which leads to another issue. Since she couldn’t have her CF she appears to be settling for the first nice guy to come along. In other words, she is only interested in the idea of being in a loving relationship, not the person himself. Since she couldn’t have the one she originally had feelings for, now she just wants a relationship to forget about her CF.

That’s pretty sad. A friendship you had your whole life wiped out in an instant just because you didn’t end up together. In this case the girl chose the first nice guy that came along. I have nothing against him or anything. I never could understand how a lifelong friendship could end so easily just because of a relationship.

In short, they won’t last because the girl ONLY appears to want a relationship so she can forget her CF as well as being in love with the idea of being in love. Also the CF did srew up by not calling her for a long time, but if she was that concerned about it why didn’t she call him? Please tell me if I’m missing something here.

This is a really nice take, they had a small romance, lets say 20 affection points but it was all the love they had so they were the most important person to each other, then the guy distanced himself and the girl developed a relationship with the other guy and her love towards the second guy was higher so even if the love towards the first guy is 20 points the love towards the second one is like 50+ points and on the rise

At that point the relationship with the first guy never changed and it probably never will

Now THAT would make a better story than this, to be honest. I don't think this is bad, but it's sort of bland and predictable compared to Musa. To add to that, the artwork isn't as hot as Fork in the Road. At least a sequel would be desirable. Though, it'd probably still be pretty cliched.

The real question, is the girl already moved on or still got tiny bit of hope on her osananajimi?
