Read this story at the start (all those years ago) and probably made a goblin slayer joke.

Years later and the author is trying to add some drama to the whole thing. A good try but the story is still about a rapist who fell in love with their work.
Just kill the nobles (for pride), the ex (for betrayal) and the goblin (for rpg decency), then finally yourself (for penance of being a horrible person).

If this was a questline in an rpg this is the point where everyone gets killed and looted by the silent protagonist.

@newtype711 yes, this is the story of a terrible, terrible person - who realizes has been a terrible, terrible person and decides to stop being so and take steps to try and remedy the evil he has done. Good old-fashioned redemption story. You can not, by definition, make a redemption story of a GOOD person, you realize.

Hey, the ex-villain even mentions by name the "should have ACTUALLY done the good my religion preached" part of the most famous song about "redemption from villainy" song EVER written (Amazing Grace, written by a FUCKING ACTUAL SLAVE TRADER who decided to redeem himself - successfully), something I doubt it's a coincience. Very likely that was deliberate.

@ ssj782 yes, if Gobu was a human it would be 100% Stockholm syndrome. Then you have chapter 4 going out of its way to explain how in Goblin society the continuous raping of their females was SO commonplace that, by comparison, Gobu found her treatment by Darren to be a far better deal. (Which, BTW, is the chapter where Darren starts his road to redemption and realizes what a piece of shit of an human being he had been to date). Likely also not coincidence that the author's "hey, it totally isn't Stockholm syndrome" infodump and Darren's "I was SUCH a douchebag!" speech are in the same chapter.

And here we are, analizing the plot twist and narrative devices of fap doujins.

@redragon1990 we already had a gobbo villain arc. It was the first half of chapter 4, and was hilariously cut short by a hail of arrows from the "FFM threesome arc".
