This isn't a rewrite, and she is not clearly his older sister in the RAW, although it's possible that she is. He addresses her as nee-chan twice in the RAW, which could just be an older close (childhood?) friend. There isn't anything that explicitly says that they are brother and sister, and the translation follows the original story.
